The Call
of the Circle

On the unconditional surrender of cats to circles drawn on the floor. This is a capacity for abstraction rarely matched in the animal kingdom, and in our view it urgently requires funding.

Cat in Circle ($CIRCAT) is the first token to formally fund the unconditional surrender of cats to circles. No cat has been consulted. No cat ever will be.

Abstract

Cats do not hear their own name.
Cats obey a circle on the floor.

This study examines the phenomenon whereby the domestic cat (Felis catus), upon encountering a closed curve drawn on the ground plane, is left with no option other than to sit inside it. The cat sits on the idea of the boundary.

This is where Cat in Circle ($CIRCAT) comes in: to fund research into the unconditional surrender of cats to circles drawn on the floor. If you too care about this phenomenon, join us.

Introduction

Humanity has spent thousands of years trying to control the cat.

Every method has been attempted. Every method has failed. One method has never once failed.

Leash

Attempted. Failed.

FAILED

Training

Attempted. The cat trained the trainer.

FAILED

Rewards

Attempted. Cat took reward, performed no task.

FAILED

Tape on Floor

Attempted. Total, unconditional surrender within 30 seconds.

CONFIRMED

Method

We put something on the floor. We waited. The cat came. We attempted a control group, but the control-group cat also wanted to sit in the circle, so the experimental design collapsed on its own.

<30saverage surrender time
100%conviction (unscientific)

Limitations

  • Our sample consists of one cat, who at no stage agreed to cooperate.
  • Ethics committee approval was obtained; the cat did not grant it.
  • Data were deleted twice because the cat sat on the keyboard. This is itself a finding.

Live Experiment

Draw a circle. Any circle.

The cat does not need a real circle to surrender to it. It only needs to believe the circle. Draw a closed loop below and observe.

Mechanism

The circle is not a space for the cat. It is a therapy session.

Studies conducted with shelter cats show cats given a circle adapt to stress significantly faster. The full loop, observed and documented below.

Human laughs
Phone comes out

of everything.

We would like to place on record a possibility the literature has overlooked: perhaps the cat knows perfectly well what the circle is, and simply enjoys watching you laugh. No method has yet been developed to test this hypothesis, because the researcher attempting to develop one is also being sat on.

Conclusion

"The cat sits in the circle because the circle tells it: this is enclosed, this is yours, this is warm, and nobody can come at you from behind here. The circle does not need to be real in order to say this. It is enough that the cat believes what it says."

This is true for all of us, really. The difference is that the cat sits down once it finds its circle. We usually take another lap. $CIRCAT funds the research. Nobody else will.

FAQ

Frequently Asked, Rarely Answered

No. This is cat advice. Please consult a licensed financial advisor, and a nearby cat, separately.

Fast settlement, low fees, USDC-denominated gas. The research budget shouldn't be eaten by the network it runs on.

The unconditional surrender of cats to circles drawn on the floor. Read the abstract above. We were very clear about this.

No. The cat does not read whitepapers. The cat has, however, sat in several circles during the drafting of this one.
